From the artistic interaction between bodies and bamboos Cia Nós No Bambu is born. Its innovative poetics is the result of two lines of continuous research: 1) material - bamboo, investigation of constructive solutions and the creation of acrobatic instruments with this raw material; 2) the scenic body interaction with the bamboo forms. Thus emerges his original poetics and unfolds bamboo body art.

Developed and chiseled since 2003 by Cia Nós No Bambu, in a process of continuous research and permanent resizing, Bamboo Body Art shapes boundaries from the hybridism of artistic languages, methods and production of meanings. This multifaceted DNA, interlacing acrobatic dance, theater and handmade bamboo acrobatic instruments has given rise to six shows and various performances, numbers and special projects.

A repertoire of weight, in concept and practice, whose originality and creativity inspire and provoke artists from the most diverse geographies. Thus, bamboo, which inspires the company, gives rise to sustainable art. Nós No Bambu puts it on the scene as a metaphor for a relationship of harmony and co-creation between humans and our Planet Earth.

The excellence of the art of Nós No Bambu has already been recognized by Rumos Itaú Cultural, Petrobras Cultural Award, Funarte Carequinha Prize, Cultural Support Fund / Federal District Culture Secretariat and countless festivals, among others.

OUR ORIGIN

 

The poetics of Nós No Bambu is the artistic development of the Integral Bambu System (Whole Bamboo System), created, researched and improved by Marcelo Rio Branco, from Brasilia, Brazil´s Federal District, since 2000. Marcelo is a professor of Physical Education graduated from the University of Brasília.

˝o INTEGRAL BAMBU arose from the quest to meet my expectations in choosing a path and a discipline aiming at the improvement of motor skills, self-care, education for survival, the art of movement, interaction with nature, personal growth and autonomy. [...]

One day I decided to start researching the "tree climbing" proposal. I spent two years trying situations over trees. Still playing as a child, but with the dedication guided by the systematic of a researcher. [...]

I started thinking about sharing this experience in trees. The problem: It did not fit everyone with me in the same tree. I wanted a tree where everyone could climb. But, how to create structures to climb? With what?

On July 25, 2000, when I was driving, I found a group of cut bamboos thrown on the edge of the lane. I had found the WHOLE material. "

Marcelo began research on the construction of bamboo shapes. He added people around him in these bamboo body practices and building them. His first research site was in his mother's backyard. From there, Marcelo went to the Olympic Center of the University of Brasília, where he set up a studio with stalls and masts as predominant forms, flanked by mats.

Among the guests in the house of Mrs. Rio Branco and the Olympic Center, were Ana Flávia Almeida, Roberta Martins and Poema Mühlenberg, all students from the University of Brasilia and with previous experiences in the arts of the scene and the body. It was in the playful environment of Integral Bambu that the first calls for performances with the bamboos appeared. The first performances were carried out by a heterogeneous group of practitioners of Integral Bambu, the Integrated ones. Among them, Marcelo himself.

The interest in deepening the research of scenic and creative possibilities of the relationship between body and forms of bamboo culminated in the provocation of Marcelo so that Poema produced the first show of the company. Faced with the challenge, she called her mother, the experienced producer Liane Mühlenberg to create Uirapuru Bambu - Performatic Show (2008). The main cast was formed by Ana Flavia, Roberta, Poema, Vitor Martim and Nara Faria with the artistic direction of William Lopes. This was the the historical landmark of Cia Nós No Bambu towards its professionalization. Since then, the company has added the participation of several artists in its cast and the valiant collaboration of so many others in its creative processes.
